Moving Into Secondary School – Thoughts from a Mentee, F

Before I started secondary school, I felt a little scared and anxious as everything was pretty new to me and I did not know exactly what to expect. I also felt a little nervous about having missed 6 months of school due to lockdown and I was afraid that I was not going to be able to keep up with the standards of secondary school.  At the same time, I also felt excited about meeting new friends and having new teachers. When I look back now, everything doesn’t seem so scary as I have made lots of new friends and I know my teachers. I also know my way around school and I don’t get lost anymore. Taking part in the mentoring program during this transitional period it has helped me build my confidence as I do lots of activities that I usually wouldn’t do. This allows me to come out of my comfort zone and explore new interest. Mentoring has also helped me look at my past achievements and plan some future goals. Overall, the mentoring program is a great thing as it can help you with your confidence as it has to me and help you explore new interests by doing activities that you normally wouldn’t.
